The Christmas evening in Hednesford on 2 December 2011 was a great success and we managed to raise £212.00 for the British Heart Foundation by having a tombola, lucky dips for children and selling bric-a-brac.

Thanks to everyone who supported us, which in turn supports a very worthwhile cause.

We were asked by the proprietor of "The Kitchen Cupboard" greengrocers in Market Street, if we would be able to clear and replant two raised beds outside the shop, which had been neglected.  She would supply the fresh compost and plants, if we wouldn't mind doing the work!  On Sunday 24 July 2011 the club completed this very enjoyable task - please see our "before and after" photos in the gallery

Hednesford Traders' Association organised a street party on Friday 29 April and the club had a stall selling plants, bric-a-brac and a tombola.  The weather stayed fine and dry which brought the crowds into the town.  There were lots of stalls, live music, children's party and rides, food and drink and much more.

It was certainly a success for all involved and we shall be making a donation to the Traders' Association in due course.

On Saturday 30 October we spent the day in the school's Millennium Garden and courtyard - cutting back overgrown hedges, pruning, replanting fruit trees into a "mini orchard", weeding beds and planters and also planting over 1500 mixed bulbs throughout the garden for next spring's display.  We hope to make this area a colourful, peaceful haven for children, incorporating wildlife and sensory areas.  This will be an ongoing project.

Over the coming months we shall also be involved in the planning and planting of an allotment and flower bed area and will be working with the children as the project progresses.

Our aim is to encourage an interest in growing from seed, caring for plants, how to take cuttings, harvesting of crops, etc.

In conjunction with the Traders Association, we had a stall selling hanging baskets, bedding plants, seeds, cuttings, vegetable produce, a raffle, children's lucky dip, books and a table for children to decorate pots and plant up seeds for free.

The aim of this event was to bring people into the bottom end of town where many shops are boarded up awaiting regeneration.  It was a very successful day and the weather was glorious.

Proceeds will go to arranging and inviting guest speakers to give talks on a variety of subjects, for the benefit of local people.  It is hoped the Gardenfest will become an annual event.
